Samavesha: An Immersion into the Beauty and Support of Healing

Join Kevin Lamb for a very special retreat with purpose. After thinking about the best place to hold this retreat, the decision was made: Puerto Rico. In an effort to take action and bring resources to an area in need, I decided on a place that will not only provide endless beauty but will also be a backdrop for healing and support.

This weeklong retreat will be a balance yoga practices, play and delicious food, as well as an opportunity to support the local communities of Puerto Rico as they recover from the effects of Hurricane Maria.

I have found a local nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting, restructuring and rebuilding this beautiful place, ConPRMetidos, and will be donating part of the proceeds of this retreat to them in support of their efforts. Conprmetidos is an independent, non-partisan and non-profit organization operating from San Juan, Puerto Rico since 2012. Their mission is connecting people to foster commitment with the personal, social and economic development of the Puerto Rican communities. Inspired by trends in social innovation, they strategically engage Puerto Rico's diaspora's resources to implement solutions that provoke systemic change in the island. Due to the recent catastrophic damages caused by Hurricane Maria, they are mobilizing their network's efforts for the long-term relief of vulnerable communities in the island.

The retreat will take place in a luxurious ocean front Villa, Villa Playa Maria, the perfect place for sunset viewing and transformative practices. Upon arriving, you will be surrounded by lush tropical gardens, poolside verandas and landscaped lawns with only the sound of the wind and waves to interrupt your day.

Our mornings will start with a strong, vigorous practice working deeply into our poses and hearts. After hours soaking up the sun, we will return to our mats for late afternoon therapeutic practice, dropping into sweet release and healing meditation, followed by a gourmet multi-course dinner and wine pairing lovingly prepared and meticulously design by Scott Andrews, Executive Chef and creator of Stagionarsi. In between, you will have the chance to enjoy this surfer's paradise with a surf or stand up paddle board in tow, a healing massage or just vegging out in a hammock soaking in the waves.

This intimate retreat will be a blend of play and adventure, support and healing, movement and meditation and the chance to not only unplug but connect...with rum in hand.

Without knowing him really at all (beyond class time) I had a confident sense that going on a retreat with him would be special. He is approachable and very skilled as a yoga instructor. He extends kindness with ease and has a way of making you feel like you’re at home instantly. He is devoted to the practice of yoga, and to bringing a rich experience on the mat.

A BIT ABOUT OUR CHEF

unnamed-1.jpg

Stagionarsi creator and executive chef Scott Andrews is thrilled to be joining in on this amazing Puerto Rican experience. He will be preparing dinner each night, taking in the flavors of Puerto Rico but implementing his own style and flair to some of the local classics. Dinners will be a multicourse gourmet delight, sourced from local farms and fishermen, paired with wines and maybe a rum cocktail or two.

Scott Andrews’s culinary passion began in 2003 while studying in Italy, learning the local Tuscan cuisine and visiting vineyards. In 2008 he left his environmental job in Seattle, WA to move to NYC and start working in restaurants. He has previously worked at Angelica Kitchen and Counter, and in 2011 started Stagionarsi (stagionarsi.com), a seasonal supper club offering a plethora of tasting courses to highlight the season and the local produce. Rooted in his Italian influences where the table of people is central, Stagionarsi’s name is taken from the Italian word for the seasons (stagioni), but is specific to food, meaning to season, to age, or to mature. It is a culinary endeavor that is always evolving and maturing and always giving enjoyment.
